Coloring Book History
The coloring books were most popular in the 1960's. Thousands of subjects appeared in them, like Cracker Jack, Planters Peanuts and Campbell Soup. Though, there were the popular themes from the tv shows back then that were most popular in coloring books or coloring pages. The Flintstones and The Addams Family to mention some.
Coloring books was originally painting books, and has seeds back to the 1880s, The McLoughlins produced "The Little Folks Painting Book" with the noted illustrator Kate Greenaway.
Coloring books would expand in the 20th century beyond comic strip characters and heroes to feature cartoons, radio and television, Disney, cowboys, historical themes, movies, advertising, and even ice skating (Sonja Henie had her own coloring books in
1939 and in 1940 ).
Today its the stuff we see on the kids tv channels and disney ofcourse thats the main theme of the coloring books.
